The play is set on a Spring evening in 1912 at the Brumley home of the Birlings, a prosperous family in the industrial North.

The family has enjoyed a dinner celebrating the engagement of their daughter, Sheila, to Gerald Croft, heir to a successful family business. But their evening is interrupted by a police inspector . . . . . . their lives will never be the same again!

'Getting On' by Alan Bennett - Spring 2007

Directed by Oliver Clauson

Alan Bennett’s ‘Getting On’ was written in 1971, when Edward Heath was Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher Education Minister and mini skirts still at the height of fashion! It explores the life of George Oliver, a disenchanted socialist MP and his wife Polly, as he contends with his passing years. The play is set in the basement kitchen where all the comings and goings of the house are lively presented.

However a creaking floorboard, a leaking pipe and the odd behaviour of the party members makes the day most memorable - for all the wrong reasons.

'Confusions' by Alan Ayckbourn - July 2012

Directed by Sally Wolfenden

This is a series of four short interlinked plays ranging in style from comic naturalism to high farce. The evening begins in a living room where a young mother, whose husband is constantly away, is treating a couple of nosey neighbours like small children (Mother Figure), before moving to a bar in a provincial hotel where the absent husband, who is a commercial traveller, has more than just sales on his mind (Drinking Companion). It moves onwards to a quiet restaurant, where two married couples realise they have more than just the waiter in common (Between Mouthfuls), before the hilarious finale depicting a village fête ends in total chaos (Gosforth's Fete).

'When We Are Married' by J B Priestley - November 2012

Set in the late 19th century, this highly engaging farce begins with three highly respectable couples in a small West Riding town celebrating their silver wedding anniversaries, having all married in the same chapel on the same day. Hilarity and pandemonium ensue when they discover the cleric who married them wasn’t authorised to do so, and that technically speaking they have spent the last quarter of a century living in sin!

'Habeas Corpus' by Alan Bennett - June 2013

In Brighton’s posh district of Hove, bored, well-to-do residents have heard of the sexual revolution and are wondering when they will get a piece of the action. Sex-mad Dr Arthur Wicksteed is caught in a compromising position with a curvaceous young patient, while his wife is torn between a ladies’ underwear expert and her husband’s bitter rival. Meanwhile, Canon Throbbing lusts after Arthur’s spinster sister, and the arrival of Lady Rumpers leads to some shocking revelations about the past. This hilarious sex comedy was much enjoyed by audiences who appreciated its fast pace and witty dialogue.
